10 2016 YA Releases I Didn't Get to But Will Read Soon! | Top 10 Tuesday

I've read a lot of 2016 releases last year but nowhere near managed to read all the cool books I wanted to read!
Here are some that I missed.

LADY MIDNIGHT - Cassandra Clare
I'm not done with the shadowhunters series and I will read a lot more of them. I've still not finished The Mortal Instruments but one day I will. Even though I genuinely didn't truly love a single one of these books I just love the TV show (Marc 8th 2016, Marget McElderry) Goodreads

SEVEN BLACK DIAMONDS - Melissa Marr
It's been years since I've read Melissa Marr! And another fairy book?! Yes! (Mar 1st 2016, HarperCollins) Goodreads

CONSIDER - Kristy Acevedo
A protagonist with anxiety and holograms! Bring it on! (Apr 19th 2016, Jolly Fish Press) Goodreads

THE SIREN - Kiera Cass
Sometimes I go through those phases where I'm absolutely obsessed with a specific paranormal creature. I haven't been on a mermaid craze this year so I skipped this one, but I hope I'll get obsessed in 2017. (Jan 26th 2016, Harper Teen) Goodreads

DEAD GIRLS SOCIETY - Michelle Krys
I didn't read the blurb, I just know there's a chronically ill protagonist and I'm sold. I assume it's one of preppy boarding schools ~with a secret society~ novels. (Nov 8th 2016, Delacore) Goodreads

FLAMECASTER - Cinda Williams China
I've been reading a lot of High Fantasy in 2016 but I unfortauntely didn't manage to read this one. I don't know anything at all about it aside from my friends loving it. (Apr 5th 2016, HarperCollins) Goodreads

TELL THE WIND AND FIRE - Sarah Rees Brennan
I've been longing for another book similar to PLUS ONE with people living in the daylight and the night and this is just what I'm looking for. Soon. (Apr 5th 2016, Clarion Books) Goodreads

KILL THE BOYBAND - Goldy Moldavsky
Boybands and fandom obsessions! I'm sad I didn't buy a copy this year. (Feb 23rd 2016, Point) Goodreads

UNDERWATER - Marisa Reichardt
You can always catch me (get it? because the book's name is UNDERWATER. Nah?) with a good mental health read. (Jan 12th 2016, Farrar Straus & Giroux) Goodreads

THE ASSASSIN'S HEART - Sarah Ahiers
I don't think I actually ever truly loved an assassin book. Bring on the badassery! (Feb 2nd 2016, HarperTeen) Goodreads

What are some 2016 releases you wanted to read but didn't get to?

Top 10 2017 YA Debuts I'm the Most Excited For feat. Angie Thomas, Rebecca Barrow & more | Top 10 Tuesday

This was the hardest blog post I ever made. There are about 40 books in my 2017-releases shelf on Goodreads in this very moment and I could think of at least 10 more. It was awful to have to choose. A-W-F-U-L

THE GALLERY OF UNFINISHED GIRLS - Lauren Karcz
This blurb very much sounds like magical realism, painting, and queerness and I am very much ready for that. Goodreads

ONE OF US IS LYING by Karen McManus
Honestly I cannot get enough of books with unreliable narrators. Bathe me in them. Goodreads

ALLEGEDLY by Tiffany D. Jackson
I've been lusting after this for months now. The premise of the protagonist having murdered a child is the most interesting thing and I just want to read it! That combined with fantastic reviews from author friends who have been able to get an early copy.... *hisses* I want it. Goodreads

THE LOVE INTEREST by Cale Dietrich
Okay but this book you guys. Two guys compete for one girl and end up falling in love with each other. I ache for this. I need this in my life. Goodreads

THE HATE U GIVE by Angie Thomas
With an almost instant movie deal this book is probably going to be one of the most important releases of 2017. It's inspired by Black Lives Matter and tackles police brutality. Goodreads

WICKED LIKE A WILDFIRE by Lana Popovic
This is about girls who can manipulate beauty through magic and the second this blurb went live, my body was ready for this. Omg. Goodreads

GIRL OUT OF WATER by Laura Silverman
A one-armed swoony love interest. From that blurb I can already tell that I'm going to fall for this guy. Goodreads

YOU DON'T KNOW ME BUT I KNOW YOU by Rebecca Barrow
I love reading about accidental pregnancies. This one also features adoption and I'm just like ????? give this book to me now?? Goodreads

THE ELEMENTALIST by V.V. Mont
Oh how I long for more books about elemental magic! Let's bring those back I love this so much, so excited to read it. Goodreads

LIKE WATER - Rebecca Podos
This bisexual performing mermaid had me lurking the second I read the blurb. I can't wait!!! Goodreads

10 Most Anticipated Releases For The First Half Of 2017 feat. Riley Redgate, Jeff Zentner & more | Top Ten Tuesday

2017 is such a good year for books. There are so many fantastic novels that I'm looking forward in the first half only that I just have to share.

CARAVAL - Stephanie Garber
I've never seen a book get so hyped such a long time before its release before and I can't wait to hold a finished copy in my hands. (Jan 31st 2017, Flatiron Books) Goodreads

DEFY THE STARS - Claudia Gray
After finishing her excellent Firebird trilogy I would've bought anything she'd release next at this point. I like robots, so hey let's go. (Apr 4th 2017, Little Brown Books) Goodreads

10 THINGS I CAN SEE FROM HERE - Carrie Mac
A f/f love story with a protagonist that has anxiety! Come on my shelf right now! (Feb 28th, Henry Holt) Goodreads

GOODBYE DAYS - Jeff Zentner
My god, that blurb. A boy kills his three best friends in a car crash. I want this heartbreaking lil book on my shelf asap. (March 7th, Crown Books) Goodreads

QUEENS OF GEEK - Jen Wilde
I've been waiting for this book for ages. A bisexual love triangle set at comic con! Need! (March 14th 2017, Swoon Reads) Goodreads

WAKING GODS (Sleeping Giants #2) - Sylvain Neuvel
SLEEPING GIANTS was the cause of the worst reading slump I've had in months. Ancient robots from outer space, Round #2. Can't wait. (Apr 4th 2017, Del Rey) Goodreads

NOTEWORTHY - Riley Redgate
A bisexual protagonist in acapella camp! Gimme! (May 2nd 2017, Amulet Books) Goodreads

ROMANCING THE THRONE - Nadine Jolie Courtney
Sisters competing for a prince! Am I getting THE SELECTION vibes? Need! (May 30th 2017, Katherine Tegen Books) Goodreads

INTERNET FAMOUS - Danika Stone
One more story by Danika Stone centered around fandoms and bloggers! Yas! (June 6th 2017, Swoon Reads) Goodreads

TASH HEARTS TOLSTOY - Kathryn Ormsbee
Bloggers and an asexual lead. Honestly my most anticipated release of 2017. (June 6th 2017, Simon & Schuster) Goodreads

10 Books I'd Buy NOW If Somebody Got Me a Gift Card - feat. Cyn Balog, Lauren Oliver, Danielle Vega & more | Top Ten Tuesday

This is totally not a (not very) subtle hint that I wouldn't mind a gift card. 10 books I'd totally buy right now:

ERASING TIME by C.J. Hill
Twins waking up 400 years in the future! Hell yeah! I love books that involve travelling to the future, bring it on!

GEMINI by Sonya Muheerje
I'm still bitter that I got declined for this on Netgalley. Two words: conjoined twins. Gimme.

A LONG LONG SLEEP by Anna Sheehan
Sci-Fi and fairytales! This is about a "sleeping beauty" waking up in the future. I need a physical copy of this masterpiece!

REPLICA by Lauren Oliver
I've read BEFORE I FALL and DELIRIUM by her and I've been meaning to give her other books a shot. BEFORE I FALL was the bomb and this is a flip book. I need this. Desperately.

THE MERCILESS by Danielle Vega
I'm physically upset that I haven't read this yet. The book's ridiculously expensive in my country, twice the price of a regular paperback. But exorcisms!

THE BLESSED by Tonya Hurley
This is about a boy who thinks he's a saint chosen by a God. I need.

MARY: THE SUMMONING by Hillary Monahan
This is a bloody mary retelling and y'all know how much I love scary novels. I'm ready!

FURIOUS by Jill Wolfson
I love my Greek mythology retellings and I adore everything related to the furies. This retelling especially caught my eye because there are poc cover models. Hell yeah!

SLEEPLESS by Cyn Balog
Balog convinced me of her incredible writing skills when I read her most recent release, UNNATURAL DEEDS. Though that one missed the mark slightly, I want to give her another shot. I definitely think she could become one of my favorite authors. This is a story featuring the sandman, by the way.

BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA by April Genevieve Tucholke
I'm reading an ecopy right now and I already know I need a physical copy. Oh April, you're so fab.

Which books would you buy if you were given a gift card?

10 Most Anticipated Second Half of 2016 YA Releases | Top Ten Tuesday

There are still so many great books to come this year, and it was hard, but I managed to put together a list of the ten books I'd probably cut off my right arm to get an early copy of.

THIS SAVAGE SONG by Victoria Schwab | Release: July 5th
I've been really curious about her since reading  A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC. I really want to try out her other books.

THE SMALLER EVIL by Stephanie Kuehn | Release: August 2nd
m/m romance, mysteries, memory loss - hell yeah!

NEVERNIGHT by Jay Kristoff | Release: August 9th
Super high expectations! I can't believe I haven't read anything by him yet, but this sounds incredible and just perfect as my first read from him!

I'M NOT YOUR MANIC PIXIE DREAM GIRL by Gretchen McNeil | Release: September 13th
A girl uses math to become just like her crush's stereotypical dream girl. Yes. Please ridicule this trope, I am so ready for this.

THREE DARK CROWNS (#1) by Kendare Blake | Release: September 20th
Three sisters competing for the throne. Fingers crossed one of them is evil. I need.

STRANGE THE DREAMER (#1) by Laini Taylor | Release: September 27th
I'm trash for Laini Taylor's writing.

A MILLION WORLDS WITH YOU (Firebird #3) by Claudia Gray | Release: November 1st
The Firebird series is one of my favorite series of all time. I feel dead inside thinking about the release date.

HEARTLESS by Marissa Meyer | Release: November 8th
I am so weak when it comes to villain stories. I have to read this. I'm adamantly against fairytale retellings, but the queen of hearts from Alice in Wonderland? Come on.

JESS, CHUNK, AND THE ROADTRIP TO INFINITY by Kristin E. Clark | Release: November 8th
I usually don't care much for roadtrip stories, but the thing that makes this stand out is the trans protagonist. I really want to read this.

SCYTHE by Neal Shusterman | Release: November 22nd

A story about reapers! God bless! And Shusterman means it's gonna be weird. I'm looking forward to this.

Some Popular Books I Feel Differently About in Hindsight | Top Ten Tuesday

Sometimes you end up changing your mind about books that you were sure you hated or loved after you finished them.

Here are some of the books that I changed my mind about.

THUMBS UP
(I was too harsh. This is actually nice.)

BEAUTY QUEENS - Libba Bray
It was one of those books that I reviewed very early into my blogging career. I was harsh and mean and didn't appreciate the representation. You go, Libba.

STARCROSSED - Josephine Angelini
Another one of those early harsh reviews. I actually ended up reading the second one and the series really redeemed itself. It's still not one of my favorites but definitely doesn't deserve a two star rating!

BEFORE I FALL - Lauren Oliver
I think I might bump this up to a four star rating. I had such a fun time reading this and groundhog day kind of novels are really my thing.

CITY OF GLASS - Cassandra Clare
I wrote a pretty mean review about this and I was so sure I would never continue this series, yet here I am reading the fourth. I actually reread this and decided to go up from one star to two. Still pretty bad though!

THUMBS DOWN
(This isn't as good as I thought)

THE FAULT IN OUR STARS - John Green
You know what, I actually think this isn't as good as I thought it was. It's admittedly the first John Green book I liked and I wasn't very well-read in the contemporary genre at the time. This is tear-jerking cliche garbage.

RUBY RED - Kerstin Gier
You know what, no. I love time travel and all but this isn't done well. I don't know what's going on, I don't like it, and the character relationships are awful. I don't know why I ended up recommending this to people.

CAN YOU KEEP A SECRET? - Sophie Kinsella
I honestly think this only got a three star rating because I love Kinsella so much it hurts. Objectively, this is at most a two star read. I'm a biased lil thing.

Have you read some of these? How do you feel about them?

10 Books I Picked Up Because They Were Recommended (Some Still on my TBR!) | Top Ten Tuesday

Sometimes I pick up books without really being interested in them. Sometimes this works out and I end up loving them. Sometimes not so much.

10. TO ALL THE BOYS I'VE LOVED BEFORE - Jenny Han
I've been urged to read this so often, it's time.

9. TALON - Julie Kagawa
I had no idea that this was about dragons and this is moving up quite a bit on my TBR now! Probably will read this next, I'm trying to read lots of high fantasy books right now anyway.

8. DREAMLAND - Sarah Dessen
I am just not ready to stop reading Dessen books. I probably won't like this either, let's face it. But so many people have told me that this is her best work. I really want to like this.

7. CITY OF FALLEN ANGELS (TMI #4) - Cassandra Clare
I don't know why I keep doing this to myself. I don't like this series. I'm currently rereading (or torturing myself) through the third novel and very likely will read this one, too. *sighs*

6. CRUEL BEAUTY - Rosamund Hodge
Everyone and their moms gushed about this last year. Well.

5. THE DARKEST MINDS - Alexandra Bracken
I think Bracken is such a talented writer but this book is horrible. It's just such a typical debut novel and I'm so disappointed and sad that I didn't like it.

4. A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC - V.E. Schwab
Schwab has been on my list for so long, her books all have fantastic premises. And because a dear friend of mind loved this to bits, I decided that I have to read this.

3. MOSQUITOLAND - David Arnold
I keep seeing people mention this all the time and I'm very weak on my contemporary game right now, so yeah, bring it on!

2. UPROOTED - Naomi Novik
This is such a good book. Happy I listened to my friend and read this!

1. THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL - Soman Chainani

I am pretty sure this a middle grade book. Regardless, I think the premise is just too interesting to give this one up. Good/Evil binaries are my kryptonite.

Have you read some of these?

10 Things that Make Bookworms Happy

There are many bookish delights in the world, but today I'll only showcase ten of them for you for Top Ten Tuesday.

#10: Owning a complete series with matching covers
I only have one set of matching cover books and it's so close to my heart. It's so beautiful.

#9: Watching the movie after you read the book
I'm one of those super impatient people that very likely will watch the movie beforehand when it's 100% something I NEED to see. But when I manage to get it together and read the book first, it's almost always magical to see the movie.

#8: That feeling when you look up and notice you've been reading all day
Remember those books that immerse you so complete in their world that everything outside of it, in the real world, doesn't matter anymore? I wish I'd encounter one of those again.

#7: Discovering bookish SWAG where you least expect it
You're just minding your business and trying to do some shopping when you casually encounter book-inspired clothes or jewelry. Makes my day every time!

#6: When a recommendation hits home
I am so humbled when people ask for my opinion, even more so when they actually end up liking the book I urged them to read! Success!

#5: Loving the first book in a series and realizing all sequels are already published
It's such a wonderful feeling to not have to wait to read a series.

#4: Book Sales
Can anyone of us ever walk past a book sale?

#3: Discovering a new favorite author!
There is nothing more pure than reading multiple books by the same person and loving them all.

#2: Book mail
I love, love, love getting books in the mail The anticipation before opening the package, looking at a new book for the first time - it's fantastic!

#1: The smell of a new book
Nothing can trump this. Honestly, this is the most beautiful smell in the world.

10 Popular Books That I Disappointingly Rated 1 Star | Top Ten Tuesday

*Sighs* I know there are quite a lot very popular books in there and I do also realize that taste differs and some of you love these books.

Just because I didn't like them, it doesn't mean they're bad. Live and let live, okay?

10. WITHER - Lauren DeStefano
I just don't like books that mostly take place in fancy mansions. This was really boring.

9. WAIT FOR YOU - J. Lynn
See, this shouldn't be surprising to me because NA Romance mostly weirds me out. But I really like JL Armentrout and am constantly chasing the high/giddy feels I got from her Lux series.
I'm an addict.

8. SHIVER - Maggie Stiefvater
This was my first Stiefvater novel and absolutely scarred me for life. Um... this is literally about a girl trying to make her dog/ pet werewolf her boyfriend.

7. THE GODDESS TEST - Aimée Carter
I absolutely love everything Greek mythology and was very disappointed to find a very bad twilight fan fiction. Yikes.

6. SHATTER ME - Tahereh Mafi
Having everyone rave about this should've prepared me. Abusive is not romantic??? Wtf???

5. LANDLINE - Rainbow Rowell
I have read my fair share of Rowell novels and not really liked any of them, I don't know why I keep trying. It's still disappointing each time. You'd think I'd learn from my mistakes.

4. CRUEL BEAUTY - Rosamund Hodge
Dear lord, save me. This was basically the YA High Fantasy version of one of those smutty historical romance novels you can buy at train stations.

3. SIX OF CROWS - Leigh Bardugo
*sighs* can people please stop using other cultures for aesthetics and also doing it WRONG. Simply hiring someone to back check facts can't be that hard for a bestselling author.
Also, this book is just bad.

2. THESE BROKEN STARS - Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner
This one bored me out of my mind with the annoying insta-love.

1. CINDER - Marissa Meyer
I am allergic to cultural appropriation. How to get on my author blacklist 101.

What's your most disappointing 1 star read?
